some photos

I went to visit my buddy Blair who was in Fort Saskatchewan for three months but just left today actually. Good to see a familiar face. my friends that would read this and know him, well... what else is there to say?
(1/20, f/3.5, ISO 1600, 18mm, tweaked WB @ I think something like 4000K)
This is the view outside of Blair's place. I thought the colours look kind of cool.(1/5, f/5.6, ISO 1600, 200mm)
This is just a pic of the drapes. I thought the colour difference was unreal. what do you think?
(1/6, f/3.5, ISO 1600, 18mm, B&W)
the texture on this drapery is effin unreal take a close look i thought that too was the also mind blowing. let's just say i was high... on life.

money at night

(1/180, f/5.6, ISO 1600, 67mm)
Here's a picture of a refinery on the east side of edmonton as I was driving to airport. just a lucky moment of colour and subject

field of dreams

(1/80, f/5.6, ISO 100, 200mm.)
This is a picture of a field at sunset. Not much to it, but it turned out quite nice. I would take issue with a lack of point of focus in the picture... but whatever

Boyle!

(1/250, f/8, ISO 100, 27mm, over exposed? yeah...)
This is a grain raiser in Boyle. I don't think it gets used. The reason why I put is to show where I was for the next picture.
(1/325, f/9.5, ISO 100, 18mm. overexposed... but I took it of my self.)
Here I am wearing my full safety gear squinting in the sun. I went on a tour of a gravel pit that CN buys their, get this, gravel from. This is the kind of stuff I do.

ka-splam-o

There was a terrific lightning storm last night in the Atha-B. I took like 50 shots and this one was the coolest. There were moments when the lightning streaked across the sky for a full two seconds.

Photo specs*: 1/180, f/5.6 @ 18mm ISO 1600. Lightened in Photoshop (reason for grain)

*I'm going to add these for anyone who's interested.

Cool Sky* pics (Thanks troy)

This was the coolest differing colours I've ever seen. This is not an altered image. This is exactly how I saw it.

This is a different of angle of how purple the sky was.

Some pretty stuff out there. It was from my back yard

Troy and Jeff and a cute little beh-beh

What a cute little baby eh? she was just sleepin' pretty

Jeff, film rouge.

Coolest shit ever! a giant cloud was casting a shadow on high clouds that were being lit up by the setting sun. It was beautiful

Adventure!

I'll be brief. I found a path. I walked down it. I saw some animals. Then the sun set! very pretty.

Random pics

Fog! at the Athabasca River Front.

More Fog.

Still more fog.

A spider web.

I was trying to take a pic of the northern lights which I could see in the distance. Instead I got some stars. In this pic: my house. Click on the image. You can see the greenish haze on top of the house in the distance, that's the lights, or the northern persuasion

Flowers. Echinacea.

Athabasca River Front as the fog rolls in.

Cool sunset.

Cat being walked at the Rochester Fair. To me that seems unbelievably brave of a cat, though it looks kinda freaked out.

Two horses. Pose = cool

Troy, a girl with a cat, Sarah, and Troy again and Jay, Gau's bro

This is here is Shawn Gau's (the local paramedic/superherp in Athabasca) little brother Jay. He got wasted before, during and after meeting us and subsequently ended up passing out on my couch. What a trooper.

This is Troy trying to interview a kid who was just dumbfounded.

This is Sarah Cumbleton. She works at the library. She pretends to be mean but she's cool.

This is Troy. You can tell by his look that he's bad ass.

This is a girl with a cat. looks nice. not much else. other than the fact she's walking a cat?!?

Pictures, people, places , expeditions

I'm going to introduce some new categories for pictures I take. Namely: people and adventures... and by adventures I mean me walking around or whatever.... and of course randoms, which will just appear.

China Olympics

F--- the Olympics. There I said it.

F--- repressive regimes that deny basic human rights and the rule of law.

F--- stupid ceremonies that mean nothing including the torch which was created by Nazis.

I don't care. If you're offended whatever. It's not anything against the athletes or the Chinese people or their character or communism in general. It's about the Communist party of China, the repression, the oppression, the lack of an open system, the complacency of the IOC and governments around the world.

No one has the balls to say f--- this shit, if you're not changing your ways then we're saying screw you. Nope, no one wants to trample on the sacrosanct games. Well I will.

Hopefully PLEASE SOMEONE DO SOMETHING OUTRAGEOUS THERE AND MAKE PEOPLE REALIZE. I mean the government won't even let people have their own celebrations for fear of demonstrations.

If you fear your own people who are governing and what the fuck gives you the right to?

damn layout

I'm trying to find a layout that works with the pictures I post. Old ones seem to f- up so whatev. I'll use this one for now. That an I'm too lazy to learn html. Should have learned back in the day but whatever.

Typography is awesome

Here are some jewels of Athabasca typography.

Sometimes rebellion teenagers are awesome. This sign stayed up for like a week to. I had to pull over and laugh for a minute, only because the town is so small in about 20 minutes everyone must have seen it. The day after it was Troy's girlfriend's phone's background photo. (Incredible! three possesive nouns in a sentence!)
This one's just plain hilarious. It of course continues to say highspeed internet. But I mean what was the typographer thinking? or layout guy or whatever. I mean sure it has the rest but it was enough that I looked at it again and was like "get high?!" so yeah. Plus her face is just goofy.

Photographer Friends

Seems a lot of people I know are into photography.

I went to school with Melissa Johnston. She's now a photog in Ottawa. Does weddings and couple pics and of course artsy ones as thy come along.

Check it out.

I will make a label called photo friends that you can check out.

* the nature of blogs is kind of stupid. anyone reading this blog in a month will never know that I made that label unless I try to like... make an effort to find my friends that are trying to be photogs. maybe. I'm lazy though.

photography's stupider side.

aside from the lame photos of flowers and sunsets I take I would much rather photojournalize. From now on I'm going to post my best photos. If I get in trouble well damn I'll tell you and take them down.

Any who the point is, on the stupider side of photography there's the artsy nude photos seen here. Kinda cool in that they're naked. I understand photo art. looks cool and all (not the nudes, but photo art.) But I don't know. I realize that all my photos are not photo journalism but whatever. Maybe I'll take up photographing woman nude... just kidding Kaitlyn! I love you :)

Here is a lame sports photo I took. It's Crystal Webber of the Lincoln County Regulators narrowly catching Shane Czwil out in a forced play. The Regulators eventually won 20-7 win the "A" league slow pitch finals. They donated they're 200 buckeroos to the Athabasca Food Bank.
My team lost. We may or may not have been the worst team. Ever.

*Caveat, I'm not a big fan of sports journalism, I was covering for my work mate. Just thought it was cool.

I'll post photos that I think are cool but don't expect them to have any relevance outside of Athabsaca.

magnificent beasts

This magnificent beast was almost the death of Troy and I.
This is the moose at about 30 feet away after we came to a terrifying halt on a highway.
I think it's a female.

Here are photos i took during the Calling Lake Communties in Bloom tour.

coolness.

I reserve judgement of the tour as I am also a reporter.

All I will say is that people should take the bad with the good.
I thought these would be cool black and white pictures. People I work with made fun of me. I broke the law to get pictures of them... or it. it's a pile of gravel.
